S2E14: Are we in the end times?

Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year to all!

This is the final episode on our series on religion and spirituality and the last episode of 2018.

In this episode we take things from Christ’s time to the end times.

With me is retired Detective Darnley Small who worked for the New York City Police Department and is an elder in the Presbyterian Church.

Detective Small also did race training for the NYC Presbytery and worked in the synod.

We begin with  Nebuchadnezzar’s dream as interpreted by Daniel in his book.  See our last episode here for more details.

End of Days?

For decades christian preachers have stated we are in the end times.  But how to know for sure?

Surprisingly, Detective Small brings up Nostradamus, the french physician who was said to have had visions of the future.

Those visions were written down into what was called quatrains.

Many believe his predictions included the French Revolution, the rise of Hitler and the September 11th attacks.

Some even look to this line to prove he predicted the election of Donald Trump.

Century III, quatrain 81 refers to the 2016 presidential election.

Le grand criard sans honte audacieux,

Sera esleu gouuerneur de l’armee:

La hardiesse de son contenteur

Le pont rompu, cité de pur pasmee.

Translated it means:

The great shameless, audacious bawler,

He will be elected governor of the army:

The boldness of his contention,

The bridge broken, the city faint from fear

Then there is  Sister Ellen G White a seer in the Seventh Day Adventist church.

Ms. White was the wife of a prominent member in the Adventists and is considered one of the church’s founders.

According to Wikipedia:

White claimed to have received over 2,000 visions and dreams from God[2]in public and private meetings throughout her life, which were witnessed by Adventist pioneers and the general public. She verbally described and published for public consumption the content of the alleged visions.

Her Conflict of the Ages series of writings endeavor to showcase the hand of God in Biblical history and in church history. This cosmic conflict, referred to by Seventh-day Adventist theologians as the “Great Controversy theme,” became foundational to the development of Seventh-day Adventist theology.[3]Her book on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages.

Switching gears, we discuss how salvation works.   Who will be saved?

How will you be saved?

Why are people who do not spread the word going to be punished?

Should all Christians become Jehovah’s Witnesses?

Personal relationship with God

We end on Detective Small’s personal reflection on his life and God’s profound influence.
