One on one with Police Officer Darnley Small
This interview is a real treat for me and is especially nice for father’s day.
In this multi-part series I will be talking to police officer Darnley Small about his life as a trainer for the New York City Police Department.
Police officer Small retired as a detective and instructor in the human relations unit. This unit’s job was to provide the tools and techniques for helping police deal with crisis intervention.
In part one of our interview we talk about how he broke ground as one of the first interracial patrol teams in Brooklyn and how he became one of the first police officers to use the computer to assist in arrests in the late 60’s, early 70’s.
We end with a little history on why the human relations unit was created and how it was used to deal with corruption within the department, some made famous by the movie Serpico.
This is a very candid interview and I want to emphasize these opinions are his own and do not reflect the opinion of VTIP Entertainment or the NYC police department.
